Introduction of the Surface Complexation Model into the Theory of Colloid Stability*

چکیده
This article shows that the introduction of the Surface Complexation model into the »family« of theories that comprise the Theory of Colloid Stability makes that theory »absolute«. This means that one characterizes the electrical interfacial layer, e.g. by adsorption measurements, and calculates the equilibrium parameters, such as the equilibrium constants of protonation and deprotonation of amphoteric surface OH groups, equilibrium constants of the association of counterions, capacitances of inner and outer interfacial layers and the total concentration of surface sites. From these equilibrium parameters one evaluates the potential at the onset of the diffuse layer ( d) and calculates the electrostatic interaction energy yielding the rate constant of aggregation and the stability coefficient. It is shown that counterion association plays an important role in the aggregation phenomena by reducing the value of potential d.

A Model of Irreversible Electro-Oxidation Inhibited by Either Adsorption or Surface Complexation of the Product
Theoretical models of irreversible electro-oxidation of dissolved reactant giving dissolved product on the stationary planar electrode are developed for the conditions of staircase cyclic voltammetry. In the first model it is assumed that the product is adsorbed on the electrode surface and that the adsorbate prevents the transfer of electrons. In the second model it is assumed that the electro...
متن کاملInfluence of Surface Heterogeneities on Complexation of Ethylene with Active Sites of NiMCM-41 Nanocatalyst: A Density Functional Theory Study
Consecutive adsorption of ethylene molecules on different nanoclusters as representatives of the active sites of NiMCM-41 catalyst was investigated with respect to structural, topological, and energetic properties at the B3LYP/6-311+G* and M06/Def2-TZVP levels of theory. The dimeric adsorption of the ethylene molecules was found to be exothermic on all sites (adsorption enthalpies ranging from ...

متن کاملSoil and Rock Slope Stability Analysis based on Numerical Manifold Method and Graph Theory
Limit equilibrium method, strength reduction method and Finite Difference Methods are the most prevalently used methods for soil and rock slope stability analysis. However, it can be mention that those have some limitations in practical application. In the Limit equilibrium method, the constitutive model cannot be considered and many assumptions are needed between slices of soil and rock. The s...

In this research, investigation of the adsorption isotherms and the effect of solution conditions such as pH and concentration of complexation of some amino acids with cobalt(II) nitrate six-hydrate upon multi-wall type carbon nanotube (CNT) were done. The adsorption capacity of complexation of amino acids onto the surface of carbon nanotube increased with the pH from acidic to alkaline. At pH ...
